Devo for 07/14/2025 Service - Message by Brook Mosser and Phil Comer
What a great weekend we had. Coming off the parenting conference, the speakers, Brook Mosser and Phil Comer, brought a wonderful word on parenting and bringing God into our homes this past Sunday. Their key verse was Psalm 127:1-5.
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.
I really got intrigued with the first line in that scripture, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” As I heard it, the question that came to mind was, how do we know if our home is Godly right now? The wisdom from Brook and Phil during the message will show us ways strengthen our homes in the Lord. But have we let the Lord “build our home?”
Three questions came to me as I pondered that question. I think these are great questions we can answer to show us if we have let Him build our home.
1 - Have you made a declaration that you and your household will serve the Lord?
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:5
2 - Is God Welcome in your Home?
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelations 3:20
3 - The final question I encourage you to ask about your home is this: When people walk in your house, do they feel the joy of the Lord?
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:11
Men, our walk with the Lord has to include our homes. And, we have to keep from opening a door for the enemy! Make it a habit to serve the Lord in your home, invite God to join you, and intentionally pray over each room!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
