Devo for 08/31/2025 Service - Message by Pastor Mary Sprague
Pastor Mary continued our series “The Way that Leads to Life” with a powerful word about waiting on the Lord and allowing your strength to be renewed each day. She gave us a fulfilling acrostic to follow in renewing our strength each day, it is to WAIT:
W - Worship. Add worship to your routine every day! Darwin Lawyer said, “Worship is heaven’s strategy to release the burdened heart!”
A - Attune and align with God. “We never need shout to an absent God - He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts.” A.W. Towzer
I - Invite God into everything you do. “Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His presence continually.” 1 Chronicles 16:11
T - Taste and See - “Taste and See that the Lord is Good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him” Psalm 34:8
One statement Pastor Mary made piqued my interest.
“What if your purpose isn’t something to find, but someone you become?”
When we talk about our purpose, we have to start with God’s purpose, which is simply this:
For us to get saved. He wants us to get into his presence and accept His invitation for eternal life.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
He wants us to put His Kingdom first!
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20
He wants us to be obedient!
Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it. Luke 11:28
If we know, and pursue, His purpose, he will then give us our purpose. And our purpose will always fit into His!
So, back to Pastor Mary’s question, “What if your purpose isn’t something to find, but someone you become?” Our purpose starts with being adopted as a Son of God who walks in His purpose every day. As we do this, God adds purpose to our lives by giving us opportunities to do good works and glorify Him in all that we do!
For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13 AMP
Men, I encourage you to spend time thinking about this, and where you are with the whole idea of purpose. Get alone with God and let Him walk you down the path of embracing His purpose, so you can operate in the purpose He has for you!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
