Devo for 2/1//2026 - Message by Pastor Clint
Pastor Clint kicked off our spring series titled “Hearing God” this past weekend. This sermon series will also coincide with our semester lifegroups for the spring.
He began the sermon by reminding us that God desires to speak to us about everything. Jesus affirmed His desire to speak to us in the book of John, which was the key verse for the message:
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
Pastor Clint pointed out that the words listen, know, and follow all have something in common. Together, they all reveal a relationship. This relationship is one that our Shepherd, God, wants to have with each of His children (sheep). He wants us to listen to Him, know Him, and follow Him. As with any relationship, it is reciprocal. God, as our Shepherd, knows us and listens to us.
Pastor Clint quoted Jeff Little, who authored the book we are studying in this series, “Hearing God.” The quote, although very simple and to the point, is full of wisdom!
“THE BETTER YOU KNOW GOD,
THE BETTER YOU HEAR GOD.”
This small piece of wisdom is where I want to land on this devotional. Specifically, the word “know.” Sometimes in Hebrew and Greek, they use multiple words to describe a concept, whereas in our world, we will use one word that can be used in multiple contexts. “Know” is one of those words.
In the key verse for this sermon, John 10:27, it says that the shepherd knows His sheep. Jesus uses the word “know” to indicate an ongoing, personal, and intimate relationship. In other words, it’s not just knowing there is a God, it is about “knowing” God and having a relationship with Him.
So, if you find yourself wondering whether you are hearing God or feel like you don’t hear from Him, commit to knowing Him. Be intentional about studying God and His character. Read about Jesus’ life on earth. (The book of John is a great place to start!) He came to show us the heart of Father God and how to live our lives as Christians. As you know and understand the Lord more, hearing Him will become easier and will become just a normal part of your life!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
