Devo for 2/15/2026 - Message by Pastor Clint
Pastor Clint brought the second message for his series “Hearing God” this past weekend. As we know, God is relational and wants to communicate and commune with us, and he created us to know His voice.
“My sheep hear My voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
Pastor Clint’s wish is that, at the end of this series, we will all become more confident and comfortable hearing from God.
I am sure we have all faced decisions in our lives when we really wanted to hear from God. Pastor Clint pointed out that God is always speaking and wants to be a Father who is involved in all areas of our lives. This includes the small things, as well as the “big” decisions. So why does it sometimes seem so hard to hear from Him?
We hear many voices throughout the day, and not all of them come from our friends. God wants to be our best friend and, through his relationship with us, guides and communicates with us. In his message, Pastor Clint listed some things that keep us from hearing from (or listening to) God:
Noise of the World
Daily Distractions in our lives
Internal Conflicts
Our Flesh / Selfishness (We want it our way!)
Other Voices / Enemy Interference
So how do we wade through all of the challenges and focus on hearing from God? I am glad you asked! Here is a three-step process that can help!
First- We have to understand, and believe, that God’s character is to truly love us, care for us, grow us, and be our Father. If you struggle with this, work on it! Reach out for help.
Second - We have to make sure our motive for hearing God is pure. Selfishness, self-preservation, or blind ambition can lead us to only hear a reply from God that lines up with what we want to hear. We have to go to God seeking His Kingdom with humility and faith. This puts us in a postion hear His voice clearly.
Third - We have to practice! If we only go to God when we have a “need” or an “issue”, we are setting ourselves up for inviting the outside noise to cause confusion. Much like in sports, if you don’t practice often, you will lose skills. The more we practice spending time with God, the easier it is to hear what He has to say, and walk with peace knowing it is from Him!
Pastor Clint challenged us with some homework to help us hear from God. This is a great way to work on hearing Him. He Challenged us to get alone and ask God this question:
God, what do you say about me?
Once you ask this, just be still and listen. (Remember- God is not condemning, He values us, encourages us, convicts us, and always calls us by our names!) Write down what He says about you. Then continue to talk to Him about everyday things, not just the “big” things. The more you invite Him in and listen to His responses, the easier it is to hear what he has to say about everything!
If you follow this simple plan, your relationship with God will grow, and hearing Him will become a part of who you are!
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
