Devo for 06/08/2025 service- Message by Pastor John Vereecken
What a great weekend as we wrapped up GO Conference with a timely message by our good friend John Vereecken! His message, “What Do You See?” was on point and gave us a lot to think about.
His encouragement to see life as Jesus sees it hinges on our perspective. The story we glean from our perspective is how we will live our lives. As Pastor John put it, our perspective is like a lens; it affects how we see things. When you see life differently, you will live differently.
And then he made this statement,
“What you see, and the way you see it, determines what truth is to you.”
When I read this statement, I wondered, “How did my perspective come to be?” Pastor John touched on this somewhat, saying that “your perspective is a product of your past, from your life, from words, from experiences.”
It would be wise if each one of us dug into how we gained our perspective. We should spend time in the presence of God, asking Him to show us why we have the perspective we do. Why do I believe the things about Church that I do? Why am I angry when I see that one person? Why do I struggle to be obedient to what God asks me to do? Why do I spend so much time worrying? Why do I struggle seeing the good in people?
We each have areas in our perspective that were shaped by bad things from our past. Sin in our lives can cause shame. Words spoken over us can cause us to believe lies. Things people have done to us can cause wounds, or maybe it’s something our parents did, or didn’t do, that wounded us. All of these and more shape how we see things, and also how we respond.
To truly grow and live free from the bondage of our past, we have to lean into God and allow Him to walk us through healing. We do this by submitting to God, spending time in His presence, and LISTENING. Be bold and ask Him to show you things from your past that have negatively affected your perspective. Then repent and believe God’s grace will help you change your perspective!
Finally, believe what HE says about you! If you do, your perspective will change, and you can live the life God created for you!!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
