Devo for 10/19/2025 Service - Message by Pastor Clint Sprague
The series “Our Purpose” continued this week as Pastor Clint spoke on Freedom. Freedom is part of the 5 purposes of LifeMission Church which are:
Salvation Family Freedom Growth Mission
These purposes are also relevant to how we live our lives as Christians. If we embrace each of these and incorporate the principles in our lives, we can rest easy knowing we can overcome the trials and challenges this world throws at us!
When we hear the word Freedom, we may think it refers to the absence of something (sin, bondage, wounds etc.), but it really means the presence of someone: our Creator!
Pastor Clint gave 5 points on how we can live free, but I want to land on one of those points: True Freedom is found in His Presence
Jesus came so we can walk in freedom from the bondage of sin and to live free in this messed-up world. But freedom is not found in actions, or trying new things, or doing what people tell us to do. Without God, we can’t just decide on our own that we are going to change and walk in Freedom. When we try in our own strength to “change” something in our lives, the results are short-lived, or we end up trading one bondage for another. The fact is, true freedom can only come when we submit and spend time in the presence of our Creator.
The best part is, every time we get into the presence of God, He will give us an opportunity or an invitation. John 3:16 is a perfect example of that:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
For those who are saved, we found ourselves in a situation in which we were in the presence of God. It could have been at church or a jail cell, alone or with a group of people. When that happened, God gave us an invitation: To believe in Jesus. If we said yes to that invitation, we received real change in our lives, including eternal life, becoming a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:7), our sins were forgiven (1 John 1:9), and we received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 14:17), to name a few. None of those changes could take place without being in the presence of God.
Spending time with God is the only way to walk in Freedom. So you have to be willing to invite God into your life. You also have to let Him lead, which means you have to listen to what He says!
I encourage you to try this. If you are experiencing a struggle in your life that you know you need to change, try getting out of your normal world and getting into His presence. Let him know your thoughts, and then listen! He will be faithful!
But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:6
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
