Devo for 1/18/2026 - Message by Pastor Clint

Pastor Clint continued his sermon series on Devotion this past weekend.  The point was made that we are created and designed for devotion.  In the key verse for the series we see that the early church was devoted to Jesus and His mission.

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. Acts 2:42 NLT

And as you can see, they devoted themselves to His mission by showing a devotion to God’s Word, God’s People, and God’s Presence. Pastor Clint made this statement in his message, “We are better people when we are devoted to Jesus.”  We can all agree this is true. It is also true that it is inherent in us to be devoted to God; in other words, God created us to be devoted to Him.  But we know this world is full of opportunities to devote our hearts to something else.  Last week, I challenged us all to ask God to show us where our devotion was.  I hope each of you has done that and will continue to do so. As much as we don’t want to admit, it can be hard to keep our devotion to earthly things from overtaking our devotion to God.

As we do this, we need to get this clear: God is devoted to us!    He wants us to devote everything about us to Him, so that He can show His devotion to us by showering us with love and caring for us just as a perfect Father would.

In the message, Pastor Clint showed us the definitions of the word "Devoted" as used in New Testament Greek.  When I was thinking of how God is devoted to us, this line from the definition jumped out at me:  “To be steadfastly attentive to, to give unremitting care.” There is plenty of scripture that shows God is attentive to us, to love us, and is ready to walk with us:

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry. Psalm 34:15

These are just three of the many verses that show how devoted God is to us.  If we can believe in our hearts these promises from God and understand the blessing that comes from each of them, it can be quite easy to devote everything to Him.

While continuing to let God show you where your devotions lie, I have a two-part challenge for us this week.

  1. Look for verses in scripture that show God’s love and devotion to you,

  2. Look within yourself and see if you believe what He says about you.

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household,”  Ephesians 2:19

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
