Devo for 1/4/2026 - Go Prayer

It is so exciting that we are once again starting off the new year with 22 days of praise and worship, and this past weekend was our Go Prayer service.  It is a great opportunity to start the year intentionally by getting into the presence of God through prayer, fasting, praising, and worshipping Him!

Speaking of praise and worship, have you ever thought about why we start services off with it?  The answer is: by starting off by praising and worshipping God, we are put in a position of intimacy and closeness with Him that allows us to “focus” on what He has for us through the message.  And surprise, praising and worshipping God is not just for Sundays!

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! … Psalm 150:1-6

Now, you may read this verse and think, to praise God and worship Him, we need to play an instrument and be a good singer, or sing along with a band.    Yes, He wants us to sing as Psalm 95 tells us this- “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord…”,  and He asks us to raise our hands in reverence to Him (Lift up your hands to the sanctuary And bless the LORD. Psalm 134:2)  But that is not the only way to worship our God and praise His name.

We can praise God through our words and our actions.  We can worship Him through our prayers, in humility, and in submission.  Let me change that:

We should praise God through our words and actions,

We should worship Him through our prayers, in humility, and in submission.

Not just on Sundays, but whenever we can and wherever we are.

I encourage every man reading this to commit in 2026 to engage in praising and worshipping God throughout the week.  When you get to work, thank Him for the job.  When you feel joy, praise Him for giving us the fruit of the Spirit.  When a song comes on the radio (or at church), sing to God, not about Him.  Exalt Him by praying back scripture to Him in reverence and awe.

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. Hebrews 12:28

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
