Devo for 3/15/2026 - Message by Pastor Clint

In week 5 of the Hearing God series, Pastor Clint started off with a quote by Dallas Willard:

Hearing God is not a special privilege for a few, but a natural part of a growing relationship with Him.”

This is a wise statement and one we all need to believe, and receive for ourselves!  We get to have a relationship with our Father in Heaven.
And he is relational, and relationships require communication.  In fact, God will answer you if you just spend time in His presence, as pointed out in Jeremiah:

“Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know” Jeremiah 33:3

In this series, we have learned that God communicates with us in several ways.  He uses Scripture, the Holy Spirit, other people, and He even speaks to us through His creation.

We may not have thought about how He can show us things (communicate) through His creation.  Take the wind, for example.  Throughout scripture, the Holy Spirit is described as the wind.  On Pentecost, scripture says a rushing mighty wind came from heaven and filled the house where they were sitting.  People of that time would have recognized this wind would have been the Spirit of God, as the word wind (breath) and spirit are the same word.  It makes sense as we can feel the presence of the wind, but cannot see it.  We can also hear the wind just as we can hear from the Spirit of God.

It is not just the wind either.  God can speak to us through something we see, such as a bird, a cloud, or a particular tree, if we will just slow down and be aware of His glory.  In fact, I recommend getting out of the house and into His creation if you really want to feel close to God and hear Him.  There are so many distractions in a house or building that it is easy for the noise to overwhelm our ability to listen to and focus on God.

So, take some time this week, turn off the noise (and your phone), and get into nature.  Find a park or walking trail, or even your backyard, and just bask in the presence of God, enjoying Him and what He has for you.  But most of all, just listen and receive!.

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
