Devo for 4/19/2026 - Message by Pastor Jamey
Pastor Jamey continued the series “Jesus Changes Everything” with a message focused on the Secret Place. This comes from Psalm 91:1:
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
He explained what happens in a secret place:
The secret place is where dependence on God is formed
The secret place is where God forms our character
The secret place is where abiding replaces striving
As you can see from the bullet points above, each is pivotal in our walk with the Lord. To be successful and walk in Freedom we have to depend on God, let Him show us who we are and trust in Him rather than out own strength. A simple concept, however not so easy to put into action!
The biggest advantage of finding your “secret place” with God is quietness. A secret place should be void of competing voices, distractions and noise. It is much easier to hear from God when there are no competing voices or noise.
To get there, we have to get what I call “out of our normal.” If we try to get into our secret place when in our normal environment, distractions will always be present. Someone walks in; an email or text comes through; we notice a chore needs to be done, etc. Our secret place should be away from the normalness of our lives.
Our secret place should be quiet, giving us the ability to listen. On that note, we should work on the listening part. Too many times, we go to God with lots of questions but overlook the most important aspect: listening to what He has to say!
We have two events at LifeMission that provide you with an opportunity to get into your secret place as God works with you. The first one, Kairos, gives you the opportunity to meet with God as he draws near to you. (April 25th is the next Kairos!)
The second event is the GetAway. We take men and go away for 2 ½ days as you spend time alone in God’s paradise just being with Him!
Information for both of these events is on our men’s page of the website.
The last thing to share about our secret place is this: the more often we go to our place, the easier gets to get there. If we only try to go to our secret place when we need something, or when things are bad, we will struggle getting there without bringing in the noise of the world. So the key is to go often!! Get into the habit of going to meet God in your secret place daily (or more!), even if it is just to say hello! God loves that!
Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
