Devo for 5/31/2026 - Message by Pastor Jacob

Pastor Jacob brought the next message in our current series, “Sharing Jesus”.  He talked about how often Jesus left the masses to minister to the one.  There are several times in the Bible when Jesus did this, including when he spoke to Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman at the well, and, of course, Pastor Jacobs' favorite Jesus story: the Gerasene Demoniac, as described in Mark 5.  After crossing the Sea of Galilee, He came upon this demon-possessed man and cast the demons out of him into a herd of pigs. Jesus had mercy for the solitary person, just as He had for the masses.

There are also stories in the Bible where “regular” people went out of their way to positively impact individuals.  One of the most well-known verses that we all know is the Good Samaritan.  My favorite is the story of the 4 friends who carried the paralyzed man on the mat to see Jesus.  Stories of regular people like us, giving of themselves to bless someone through ministry.

I believe we all have our own opportunities to minister to the one.  As Pastor Jacob said, this ministry opportunity looks different for every one of us.  It may be just you sharing your testimony with someone at the grocery store, or maybe you have an opportunity to meet a person’s physical or emotional need.  Maybe it is by walking in your giftings and, through love, kindness, and faithfulness, blessing others.

The bottom line is that God uses people who have a sense of calling.  This sense of calling is not limited to certain people; it is available to all of us who follow Jesus and who are open to receiving the unique calling God has for us.

The problem comes when we get so busy or feel so unworthy that we ignore the opportunities to minister and miss out on the blessing that comes with our obedience. If we are not intentional and on the lookout ministry opportunities, we will miss them. Take some time and ask God to show you your calling. Then walk it out and commit to being ready to minister.  He will be faithful with your obedience!

For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Hebrew 6:10

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
