Devo for 6/21/2026 - Message by Pastor Clint

Pastor Clint was once again in the “Sharing Jesus” series.   He started the message with the simple truth that sharing Jesus is living our lives in a way that reveals the heart of the Father.  Jesus, while on earth, exemplified this by showing the Father's character, compassion, and love.  And he called us to do the same.

Pastor Clint brought up the parable of the prodigal son from the book of Luke to show how much the Father loves us and looks past all of our junk.  (Luke 15)  He quoted Tim Keller as saying:

“Jesus told the story of the prodigal son so that

we would know The Father’s heart toward us.”

~ Tim Keller

There is so much in this parable that reveals the Father's heart.  What stood out to me was the mercy that the son’s father showed.  He didn’t judge his son on his actions.  He met his son where he was at (actually, he ran to him!) and showed him mercy based on who he was, not what he had done.  This is the same mercy God shows us.

This mercy welled up in the prodigal son’s Father immediately when he saw him coming from far away.  The father's yearning to show mercy to his son was driven by compassion, and he immediately ran to him (Verse 20).  Upon getting to his son he embraced him in “arms of mercy” that left no doubt he was not being judged by his past, which was sealed by the father’s kiss. (This display of intimacy was, at the time, binding and represented a family bond of respect and honor)

Friends, this is exactly what God the Father wants to do with us!  He wants us to come home to Him, bringing all of our junk.  He wants us to lay down every hurt, wound, sin, and depraved choice we have made at the foot of the cross.  God is yearning to be just like the Father in the parable, and wants to shower us with His mercy!

We just have to humble ourselves and be willing to let God in.  Are you ready to come home?

Don’t forget to invite God into your day!
